Dear hotel members,
We are pleased to announce a measure that the Departments of Tourism and Finance have just implemented to assist our hospitality industry. Below is the Ministry of Tourism’s communication:
The Government of Quebec is deferring the payment
accommodation tax Quebec City, April 9, 2020. – The Government of Québec Announces Deferral of Payment
of the accommodation tax for the first quarter of 2020, originally scheduled for
April 30, 2020, to July 31, 2020.
This will provide tourist accommodation establishments with more liquidity to help them through this difficult period.
It should be noted that due to the current health crisis, tourist accommodation establishments are experiencing a significant drop in revenue. The payment of this tax for the first calendar quarter of 2020 would have represented approximately $13.8 million.
Therefore, two returns will have to be filed no later than July 31, 2020, along with the related payments, i.e., one return for the first calendar quarter of
The first is for the year 2020 and the second for the second quarter of that year.
This measure is in addition to the many other measures made available to businesses and workers in all sectors of activity, including tourism, by the Government of Québec to mitigate the consequences of this health crisis.

“Tourist accommodation operators are particularly affected by the
health measures put in place to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and we
heard them. I am convinced that this new measure will help them
temporarily to get through this difficult period. I would like to express my appreciation
to all industry players who show their solidarity with the actions taken to protect
the people of Quebec and determined to emerge even stronger from this ordeal. »
Caroline Proulx, Minister of Tourism
“With the Economic Vigilance Committee, we continue to monitor the situation of
very closely and to intervene to support our economy and help all sectors to
to get through the crisis and to restart quickly as soon as the situation permits. »
Éric Girard, Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for the Laval region
This is a step in the right direction to help your institutions in this difficult situation. As you can see, we are in constant communication with the government to tailor solutions for our industry.
Also, tomorrow we will have the opportunity to detail your efforts at LCN at approximately 7:45 a.m.
On the eve of the Easter break, I would like to wish you a wonderful weekend!
