Dear hotel members,

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced economic assistance measures for businesses. These measures will be explained in detail next Monday, so stay tuned.

Here is a summary of the broad outlines announced this morning by the federal government:

Increase of the wage subsidy to 75% for eligible businesses.
Governments previously announced a 10% wage subsidy that will be replaced by a 75% wage subsidy, helping employers keep employees on their payroll and position the economy for recovery. This grant will be retroactive to March 15, 2020

Canada Emergency Business Account
Banks will provide $40,000 in government-guaranteed loans to eligible businesses
This loan will be interest-free for the first year
For eligible businesses, the first $10,000 of this amount will be converted into a direct grant.

New Access to Credit by Export Development Canada (EDC) and the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC)
The Government announced $12.5 billion in additional support and access to credit through EDC and BDC to help small and medium-sized businesses meet their cash flow needs.
Companies can apply for a guaranteed loan through a financial institution to mitigate the impacts of VIDOC-19

Deferred GST and HST payments and import duties and taxes until June 30, 2020

Premier François Legault announced during his daily press briefing at 1 p.m. that this measure would also apply to the provincial government.
