Classification

The Corporation de l’industrie touristique du Québec (CITQ) has been officially rating tourist accommodation establishments for 10 years. The rounds of certification are every two years, and they cover hotels, B&Bs, apartment hotels, vacation resorts, youth hostels, learning establishments, hospitality villages, and since 2011, various other lodging establishments.

As at January 18, 2012, there were Québec 5,845 rated establishments operating in Québec, up 568 compared to the first round of certification ended January 2004. The increase is due to the measurable surge in apartment hotels, and to a lesser extent, a rise in youth hostels and learning establishments. Conversely, every other category experienced a drop during the same period. See this chart.
